Hi beauties! I know what you’re thinking, hell no. Fringe is scary. I get it. It’s not for everyone and I know some of you are thinking - been there, done that. Before you roll your eyes, let me steer you in the right direction. This trend is one wide brim hat away from looking like you’re at the Calgary Stampede and not in a ‘cute attendee’ kind of way. Or ‘I’m here for the theme party’, king of way. Not to worry. I have a few simple tips to help you execute and nail this trend in real life.
Fringe was by far one of the most prominent hits on spring/summer 2015 runways, meaning this 70’s renaissance is in full swing, literally. First and foremost, proceed with caution when styling this tricky trend because it can easily look costume-y if over done. My number one rule is to style your fringe with something super modern and minimalist. This will offset any potential cowgirl vibes.
Next, in lieu of wearing this skirt’s tan counter part, stay away from tan suede fringe. It’s gorgeous if you’re goal is to have a high fashion moment but after one wear and one Instagram post you’ll be sick of it. It’s such a statement piece already, I strongly suggest sticking to black so it’s easily integrated into your everyday wardrobe and wearable long after this trend dies.
I opted for a faux-suede fabrication because I don’t believe in blowing my wardrobe budget on super-duper trendy items. I’m not down with spending resources on one hit wonders. I scored this beauty at M for Mendocino for a fraction of the price of real suede. This skirt is covered in tiers of fringy adornment, and swings when I walk. So much fun!
I’m already dreaming of ways to incorporate this skirt into my fall wardrobe. I plan to pair this stringy suede skirt with a white button front shirt, knee high boots and my leather moto jacket thrown on top.
